Hi Lacemaker,

I use Huggie baby wipes to clean the inside and outside of the end of the drainage end. I have an ileostomy so it is always liquid. I clean the end first with a paper towel, then the baby wipe (I find Huggie's work the best) then I use another paper towel to dry everything. I won't use "lock & roll" after it broke open and everything fell on the floor in the hospital while my room mate had people visiting her. I like the plastic clamp, easy to clean and never had one come open.

Ok, I know I am talking out my ^$$ ( not sewn shut yet) 'pologise for the humor. but you gotta put a twist on this subject. I am not poking fun at anyone in the forum, Hope no one is offended.

Delta's idea is great. Just carry a collapsible bladder in your wallet or purse. Fill it at the basin before going to the stall. I can see it now. Running to the stall with a water balloon in hand, that will raise some eyebrows. I would do it just for the reaction...

Teflon great idea! but I see adhesion problems. " My mind feels more and more like teflon... Nothing sticks to it" ( Lilly Tomlin)

Cover attachment? Tack a little Velcro button on the inside of the cover and stick a little velcro buttons on the baggie. What do they call Velcro in the UK?

I DO see a need for development of a attachment system with no tapes or glue. I cried when I read about the little girl that was allergic to all tapes. This would truly be a gift from God!!!

Transplants... there has got to be enough of those to go around I run into them everyday, problem is somebody is already using them. (mostly government)

I like the idea of a chute system installed with a aperture like the one on a photo lens. with a pull cord. Sit, pull, up you go! 'hey it works in grain silos.'

Actually I saw on TV yesterday that they took a windpipe from a cadaver and cultivated the cells of the recipient and lined the windpipe with her own cells.  So I will keep hoping. Until then, thank God for convatec!

I saw that piece on TV. Maybe the next generation of ostomates will benefit from the science.

I think your idea about the valve in your pouch will work and really

shouldn`t be to hard to do.I was thinking the same thoughts myself.

Ditto. Since 2003 I've used every mfg's one & two piece product for a colostomy and I'm puzzled why they tout their filter as the best - and then place it right across from the stoma. The mfg that I use I don't believe has the best filter, but at least they reverse it high and on the skin side. Still all filters once soiled - and with half of my colon gone it's usually more wet than dry - the filter becomes a moot point. One mfg has a great filter placed high, but the top of the pouch flops over the stoma if you’re active at all. The other, I like the set up and feel - but the filter is placed right on the stoma. Am I missing something? Who designs and tests the equipment?

Every ET nurse I’ve spoken with agrees and yet no change. Possibly they have non-ostomy models test these out. Other than that after chemo I spent months testing every mfg's equipment. Don't rely on visiting nurses or ET's, they're great but some have their favorite salesperson. If you fine the right equipment for you a barrier lasting a week isn't a problem. I change only because I change pouches every other day & wafers the 4th day.

Those vents are easy to install. I just haven't used them the last couple of years because of the cloth cover on the pouch I now use. I guess I person could cut a bit away. Your right the middle of the night they're worth it.

I have used Hollister products for over a year & they work great, the stoma cap is good when you use it correctly...not intended to much for swim..etc. I use a two peice & am very active..go to the gym usually 5 times a week... they even have there own brand of stoma wipes that work great...my insurance covers them & everything I need 100%..I got real lucky..We also have a hot tub & I use it quite often with no problems, but everyone is different..
